The NICEIC is the industry's independent, non profit-making, voluntary regulatory body covering the whole of the United Kingdom. The NICEIC's sole purpose is to protect consumers from unsafe and unsound electrical work and do not represent the interests of electrical contractors.

Approved contractors are regularly inspected to confirm that they meet the required national technical standards and issue certificates as evidence that their work complies with these standards.

By law, electrical work carried out in households in England and Wales must comply with Part P of the building regulations.
